How to Use This Calculator on a Sourcing Run

In-store, you don't have time for a calculator on every product. Use this for pre-run practice on products you're considering, and use the Amazon Seller App or SellerAmp for live in-store calculations. Here's the mental math shortcut experienced sellers use:

The 3× Rule (Quick Mental Math)

For most standard-size products in health, toys, and home categories: if your buy cost is less than ⅓ of the Amazon sale price, you'll likely achieve 20%+ ROI. Example: $10 buy cost needs at least $30 Amazon price to be worth considering.

Not a substitute for the full calculation — use the 3× rule to quickly discard obvious misses and run the full math on promising items.

What This Calculator Doesn't Include

  • Monthly storage fees — these are per-cubic-foot charges that vary by how long inventory sits. If your item sells in under 30 days, storage is negligible and can be excluded.
  • FBA prep costs — poly bags, bubble wrap, labels if you use a prep center. Add $0.25–1.50/unit depending on your prep setup.
  • Returns — Amazon may return items at your expense. In low-return categories (toys, health), this is minimal. In clothing, it's a real cost to model.

The Starter Kit includes a more detailed spreadsheet calculator — with storage, prep costs, return rate, and BNPL payment schedule all in one model.
